In the beginning...

I think my favorite part of the farm is it sought me out. I didn't look through a list of careers and think, "That's it! I'll be a flower farmer!" It was a slowly built passion I didn't even know was under construction.
In 2017, we bought our first home. It was cold so all of the landscaping was not as obvious of a trainwreck... and then summer hit and big yikes!
I ripped basically everything out. I do best with a clean slate. The lone survivor was a gorgeous Mugo pine bush I fondly refer to as Hugo... Get it... Hugo the Mugo... Anyway...
I picked plants based on what they'd look like and plopped them in the dirt. Russian Sage, Sand Cherries, Hydrangeas (which are often times in your market bouquets starting in July). Then I ventured into plants that would help pollinators like lavender and butterfly bushes. I LOVE butterfly bushes.
Before I had my daughter I would go out every morning with my coffee and greet any new blooms, new growth, water the plants and it was just bliss. Then motherhood, specifically preemie motherhood, took over. The beds got unruly and I slowly forgot what it was like to have mornings like that...
But don't worry, something snapped me out of it and my plant obsession came back in full force. We sodded up our back yard and made six fresh rows of beautiful compost and leaf mulch. A blank canvas. A canvas on which I would plant flowers to give joy to others the way they bring me joy. Keep others in the present like they keep me.
